Job summary

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking a part-time Cafe Lead for Front Bar, its café and bar connected to the main theater at 1700 N Halsted. The position reports to the Food and Beverage Manager and supports evening/weekend performances from 10 AM to 10 PM.

Responsibilities include leading barista duties, food prep, staff training, inventory management, and ensuring sanitation. Candidates should have 2+ years coffee shop experience and strong customer service skills.

Qualifications

• Excellent organization and customer service skills.
• Be able to work 25–30 hours/week including weekends.
• 2 years coffee shop experience preferred; food prep experience a plus.
• Demonstrated quality leadership and basic math skills.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds and maintain sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

• Functions as lead barista and primary food prep.
• Directs team on assignments and provides feedback.
• Performs opening/closing duties and inventory tasks.
• Maintains inventory, communicates with manager on cafe needs.
• Educates guests about coffee/food offerings and ensures service quality.
• Coordinate with box office and other departments for smooth operations.
