Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Bakery Cake Designer in Iowa City. You will use your decorating artistry to create birthday, wedding, and everyday cakes, while delivering outstanding customer service at the bakery counter.

You will lead part-time staff, coordinate with the bakery team, and ensure production runs smoothly, maintaining high quality and timely delivery of custom cakes for customers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; we'll provide all the training you need to succeed.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and take orders at the bakery counter, assisting with needs throughout the store.
• Check daily orders, set up timelines and production schedules, verify sizes, deco packs, icing needs, and dates.
• Decorate bakery items in a timely manner and stay current on designs and trends.
• Develop daily bakery orders for bakers including cakes and sizes needed.
• Track daily production and coordinate tasks with co-workers.
• Check product dates and pull cases for work; list items to fill or replace.
• Order decorating supplies and verify receipt on delivery.
• Set up and deliver wedding cakes on site outside the store.
• Communicate with Bakery Manager about displays, weekly ads, and special needs.
• Lead part-time employees and review their work; assist with cross-training.
