Job summary

The State of Alaska, Department of Transportation and Public Facilities’ State Equipment Fleet in Fairbanks, seeks an Automotive Mechanic, Advanced Journey/Lead to maintain light-duty and specialty vehicles used in road and airport operations.

You will diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical and hydraulic systems; travel to remote locations by small plane, and log time and parts for work orders.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of machines, tools, and their repair and maintenance.
• Adaptability to changing conditions and new information.
• Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain light duty equipment and vehicles for road and airport maintenance.
• Diagnose and repair using preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Identify parts, order from manuals, and document time/materials on work orders.
• Diagnose and repair transmission/drive trains, suspension, engine and emission systems, hydraulics, brakes, electrical systems.
