Job summary

Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is seeking a skilled Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead to maintain and repair light-duty fleet used in road and airport projects across Alaska. The role requires diagnosing issues during preventative maintenance and performing repairs with a focus on reliability and safety.

The candidate will work at the Fairbanks shop, with occasional travel to remote sites by small plane.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of machines, tools, and maintenance procedures.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and schedules.
• Vehicle maintenance knowledge including engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.
• Strong self-management with initiative and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Maintain light-duty equipment and vehicles used in road and airport projects.
• Diagnose problems during preventative maintenance and perform repairs.
• Identify parts, order from manuals, document time and materials
• Diagnose and repair drive trains, suspensions, engines, brakes, and electrical systems.
