Job summary

The City of Omaha seeks an Automotive Equipment Operator III to safely operate heavy construction equipment and supervise a small crew on city maintenance projects. Education and experience include a high school diploma (preferred) with five years of equipment operation, or four years as Automotive Equipment Operator II.

A valid Class A CDL with N endorsement and air brake cert is required; a 2nd Grade Hoisting and Portable Engineers Certificate by probation end.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or its equivalent preferred.
• Five (5) years of experience in the operation of automotive equipment of the type assigned to this classification OR Four (4) years as an Automotive Equipment Operator II.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy, complex equipment assigned to this class in the performance of maintenance and construction projects.
• Transports heavy equipment to and from job sites.
• Breaks up and removes concrete from streets, ditches, and culverts.
• Cuts ditches and trenches.
• Loads earth, debris, sand, and salt for disposal at another site.
• Grades land, slopes banks, and digs trenches.
• Pushes dirt, demolishes buildings, and removes unneeded trees.
• Completes and submits reports of work completed.
• Inspects fluid levels, cleans, and performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment operated.
• Removes snow and ice from streets and spreads salt and sand.
