Job summary

United Therapeutics Corporation in Durham, NC seeks a Principal Controls Engineer to lead and support complex distributed control systems, manufacturing automation, and environmental monitoring in a regulated environment.

The role requires extensive PLC programming, DCS/SCADA experience, and collaboration with cross-functional teams including engineering, IT, and validation. On-site operation is required at the Durham campus.

Qualifications

• Education and experience requirements described: multiple paths with 14+ years, 12+ years, or 10+ years in automation and PLC connectivity.
• Experience in FDA-regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
• Strong organizational and database/validation/change control experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to the OT Automation team.
• Lead automation projects for upgrades or new implementations.
• Troubleshoot/maintain PLCs, HMIs, and field devices under change control.
• Collaborate with engineering, IT, and validation teams on system configuration and software requirements.
• Review automation specs and ensure GAMP/cGxP compliance.
