Job summary

Southwest Steel Processing in Newport, Arkansas, is seeking an Automation Controls Engineer to develop, design and implement automated systems within our manufacturing facility. You will program PLCs and robotics, troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic circuits, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve equipment efficiency and reduce downtime.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, Controls, Mechatronics or related field and a minimum of six

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as mechanical, electrical, robotics, or automation engineering.
6+ years of experience in automation, robotics, or related field.
Strong understanding of automation control systems and PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc, ABB).
Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
Leadership experience
Valid Driver’s License

Responsibilities

Design electrical, robotic, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems with BOM and schematic definitions.
Develop system test plans, simulate code, and perform testing; measure voltage, current, and resistance.
Program PLCs, robots, and pneumatic systems and integrate into equipment.
Diagnose robotic systems using PLC programming, microprocessor analysis, and circuit troubleshooting.
Install air logic controls per schematics and troubleshoot hydraulic circuits.
Document changes in the change management system and collaborate across teams to design hardware/software.
Coordinate with project management and customers to commission systems and improve efficiency.
Develop concepts for automated system solutions across electrical, controls, pneumatic, robotic, mechanical systems.
Oversee the automation team and department.
