Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Subassemblies Specialist to join the SPARC project. You will be the last hands-on contact for critical parts and later assist with machine assembly, building high‑power RF antennas, plasma-facing components, and related systems.

You’ll lead a small team, ensure quality, and collaborate with scientists and engineers to streamline workflows. This is a unique chance to contribute to fusion energy development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5-7 years in a highly technical assembly role (aerospace/semiconductor/energy).
• 2+ years leading a team of four or more.
• Ability to operate a forklift.
• Experience creating tooling designs.
• Experience completing large-scale projects end to end.
• Ability to use basic machining tools (lathe/mill) and measurement tools.
• Experience using JIRA or similar software for tracking.

Responsibilities

• Build complex subassemblies and components while meeting cleanliness specs.
• Oversee contract technicians and ensure quality parts.
• Perform testing and check-outs with helium leak checking and other equipment.
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers to refine work instructions.
• Help finalize component designs that interact with tooling.
• Assist with precision alignment and installation of optical systems.
• Maintain clean room and work area safety practices.
• Support other teams with skilled tasks as needed.
• Contribute to strategies to overcome non-conformances in the field.
