Job summary

YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is seeking a Lead Aquatics Specialist for the Cal Community Center location. The role balances 50% face-to-face leadership on the pool deck (lifeguarding, swim instruction, observation) with 50% office work and requires early morning, evening, and weekend availability.

The position oversees safety, leads lifeguard trainings, coordinates staff schedules, and ensures all aquatics audits are completed while maintaining a welcoming, safe environment for all ages.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
• Proficient with computers and capable of managing registrations/rosters.
• Ability to react quickly to emergencies and supervise aquatic operations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain visible pool deck presence with lifeguarding and teaching.
• Supervise shifts and orient new staff; schedule lifeguards/instructors.
• Perform and record chemical readings; enforce safety procedures.
