Job summary

Maximus seeks a Lead AI Systems Engineer to drive production software with AI components across enterprise and government programs. This remote role centers on building, testing, deploying, and refining software that integrates ML models, APIs, and cloud services into scalable systems.

You will mentor engineers, lead implementation efforts, and enforce CI/CD, observability, and secure development practices to deliver reliable government-facing software.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial production systems work.
• 3+ years of experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, or related technologies.
• 5+ years of experience designing or building solutions in cloud environments.
• Demonstrated experience owning software through deployment, production operations, troubleshooting, maintenance, and evolution.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals including system and API design, testing, source control, and secure development.
• Experience designing and implementing systems on AWS, Azure, GCP, or similar clouds.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and observability.
• Experience building or integrating AI/ML capabilities into software systems or ability to learn emerging technologies.
• Ability to communicate technical decisions, tradeoffs, and risks clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues.
• US Citizenship required.
• Must have the ability to obtain a Public Trust.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, ship, and operate production software systems with AI capabilities.
• Own difficult technical problems from exploration to deployment and improvement.
• Write high-quality software and contribute to code, APIs, services, tests, infrastructure, and tooling.
• Build AI-enabled applications integrating models, data, cloud services, and existing systems.
• Apply automated testing, CI/CD, observability, security, resiliency, and performance optimization.
