Job summary

Target is seeking a Lead Engineer on the AI Security team in Minnesota to assess and improve the security of AI systems across the enterprise. You will identify risks, validate controls, and drive secure deployment patterns for AI workloads in cloud and hybrid environments.

The role requires deep expertise in AI security, threat modeling, and security testing, plus strong collaboration across product, platform, and engineering teams. Hybrid work arrangement applies.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree or equivalent experience
• Software developer comfortable in several programming languages across platforms
• 7+ years of hands-on technology experience with cybersecurity domains
• LLM Security expertise (RAG, MCP, input validation, sandboxing)
• In-depth knowledge of OWASP Top 10 for LLM applications
• Solid understanding of AI/ML
• Knowledge of prompt injection styles
• Knowledge of MCP authentication patterns
• Knowledge of RAG authorization patterns
• Experience mitigating security risks of local coding agents
• Solid understanding of containerization technologies
• Strong cross-team collaboration and learning mindset
• Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills
• Experience with diverse security tools across environments
• Understanding of security management in large enterprises
• Familiarity with current threat landscape and best practices (NIST, ISO/IEC 27001)
• Strong network security, cryptography, and secure software development knowledge

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with AI platform, product, and engineering teams to evaluate security posture of AI systems
• Define and evaluate security assessment methodologies and assurance standards for AI
• Develop and execute security validation strategies including threat modeling and testing
• Conduct deep technical reviews of AI products and architectures
• Partner with engineering to validate secure deployment patterns for AI workloads
• Assess AI architectures to identify risks, vulnerabilities, and design weaknesses
• Evaluate effectiveness of security controls and guardrails for AI apps
• Perform hands-on security analysis of AI-enabled systems
• Recommend risk mitigation strategies and remediation plans
• Provide expert guidance on AI security best practices
• Prioritize high-impact improvements that enable innovation and business objectives
• Identify emerging AI threats and communicate business impact
• Collaborate with teams to improve AI security controls and governance
• Communicate risk to stakeholders balancing technical and business needs
• Serve as trusted advisor on AI security across the enterprise
