Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine seeks a Principal Data Scientist – AI/ML and Optimization to lead ML and optimization efforts for global clinical operations. You will leverage ML, GenAI, and optimization to forecast enrollment, estimate costs, and optimize country/site selection, primarily based in Madrid with other locations considered.

You will build scalable, explainable analytics, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and mentor junior team members in advanced data science methods

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline (e.g., CS, ECE, biostatistics, health economics, biomedical informatics, applied mathematics)
• 5+ years of industry experience delivering DS projects with ML, optimization, NLP, and GenAI
• Experience with multi-modal ML modeling and stochastic simulations for time-series forecasting
• Experience building multi-objective optimization engines to navigate trade-offs
• GenAI and clinical LLMs for document parsing and harmonization
• Proficiency with MLOps, Git, CI/CD stacks, and cloud-based tooling
• Programming in Python and SQL; familiarity with LLM tools and optimization libs
• Experience with clinical operational data and real-world data (EHR/claims)

Responsibilities

• Conceive, develop, and implement ML, optimization, GenAI solutions for clinical trial ops
• Develop ML models and optimization engines using RWD and cost data
• Create predictive models for time-series outcomes and KPIs
• Formulate and solve multi-objective optimization problems
• Build explainable decision-support systems for proactive planning
• Adapt LLMs for information extraction and analytics on protocols
• Perform enrollment simulations to forecast study timelines and completion
• Communicate complex results clearly to diverse audiences and mentors junior staff
