Job summary

BigBear.ai is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to drive design, development, and deployment of generative AI and agentic systems for mission-critical DoW operations. You will lead architecture, mentor engineers, and collaborate with government stakeholders to deliver production-ready AI capabilities.

You will shape cloud data pipelines, ensure security/compliance (ATO, FedRAMP), and guide full-stack development across front-end, back-end, APIs, and data layers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field with 15 years' experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams or as technical lead on complex software initiatives.
• Hands-on experience designing and deploying generative AI or agentic AI systems in production.
• Experience with multi-agent orchestration, RAG, prompt engineering, and LLM API integration.
• Proficiency in front-end and back-end development.
• Experience with secure, regulated environments (ATO, FedRAMP).
• Strong problem-solving skills and clear communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead architecture for generative AI solutions and multi-agent workflows.
• Design, build, deploy multi-agent orchestration and MCP servers.
• Integrate LLMs with commercial and government endpoints; implement prompt engineering and data routing.
• Engage with government stakeholders to gather requirements and prototype quickly.
• Develop and document full-stack applications across front-end, back-end, API, and data layers.
• Shape cloud and data pipelines to support AI workflows and knowledge routing.
• Implement security, assurance, and evaluation harnesses; perform red-team testing.
• Mentor engineers and promote AI-first development practices.
• Influence product roadmaps with field feedback and release planning.
• Coordinate deployments, monitor production and ensure mission success.
