Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an AI-enabled software engineer to own full-capability delivery—from discovery through deployment—in a fast-paced federal-facing environment. You will shape technical strategy, select AI patterns, and guide teams toward robust, measurable outcomes.

Qualifications

• 4+ years building and shipping production software.
• At least 1 year hands-on with LLM-based applications and AI patterns.
• Own capability end-to-end from ambiguous requirement to production.
• Experience evaluating AI systems with tests and metrics.
• Strong programming in Python, TypeScript, or SQL across the app.
• Experience leading requirements discussions with stakeholders.
• Ability to explain tradeoffs in terms of accuracy, cost, latency.
• Excellent client-facing writing and documentation.
• Able to work independently with minimal direction.
• Willing to teach and develop others; U.S. Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Lead requirements conversations with business and technical stakeholders.
• Define the technical approach and defend AI pattern choices.
• Advise against AI when simpler solutions suffice (rules, interfaces).
• Define measurable success criteria before building.
• Build the complete capability: prompts, retrieval, APIs, UI, error handling.
• Develop evaluation sets and iterate based on results.
• Make architecture decisions balancing quality, cost, latency, security.
• Operationalize capabilities with governance, logging, and drift monitoring.
• Mentor engineers new to AI through code reviews and guidance.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge and reusable patterns for the team.
• Move across client delivery and internal product work as needed.
• Produce clear documentation including limitations and validation.
