Job summary

Robots & Pencils seeks a Staff AI Builder to lead the design and delivery of AI/ML systems. You will own end-to-end architecture, drive technical leadership, and shape how our AI work scales across the team.

You’ll lead model development, optimize AI pipelines, and solve complex integration problems. This role emphasizes reliability, security, and scalable production systems with strong collaboration across product and engineering teams.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with GenAI/LLM production systems.
• Hands-on depth in agentic AI with multi-agent orchestration and single-agent design considerations.
• Practical RAG expertise: embeddings, vector search, re-ranking and cosine similarity.
• Experience building evaluation and observability for LLM systems (golden datasets, LangFuse/LangSmith).
• Strong prompt engineering skills for production system prompts with constraints.
• Hands-on AWS GenAI stack experience: Bedrock, Agent Core, Lambda, S3, SQS, EventBridge, Step Functions.
• Strong Python and Node.js skills for full-stack applications and RESTful APIs.
• Knowledge of production reliability patterns (retries, backoff, circuit breakers, fallbacks).
• Experience with Docker and cloud-native deployment.

Responsibilities

• Design and build agentic workflows and multi-agent orchestration patterns.
• Develop and maintain RAG pipelines and knowledge sources with accurate re-ranking and freshness handling.
• Integrate with AWS Bedrock and Agent Core for tool design and orchestration.
• Write and iterate production-grade prompts with structured constraints.
• Build evaluation and observability into AI systems with metrics and tracing.
• Contribute to frontend integration and reliable backend services across the stack.
