Virgin Galactic is seeking a Specialist Structures Design Engineer to lead the development of aircraft/spacecraft structural configurations, from concept through production and sustainment. You will manage a team of design engineers, coordinate with suppliers, review detailed drawings, and support verification tests to ensure safety, performance, and manufacturability.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 12+ years of experience in the aerospace industry with a strong design emphasis (equivalent combinations considered).
• In-depth knowledge of composite aircraft structural design and industry standards for manufacture/repair/assembly.
• Experience designing primary/secondary composite structures for aircraft/spacecraft.
• Vehicle systems integration experience.
• Expert CAD skills and composite workbenches for structures.
• GD&T per ASME Y14.5, tolerancing, drawings, and stack-up analysis.
• Experience with PLM tools and configuration management.
• Strong writing and communication skills; able to present technical material.
• Autonomy, creativity, and ability to work under pressure in a team or solo.

Aufgaben

• Design conceptual, preliminary, and detailed structural configurations for aircraft/spacecraft.
• Create components and assemblies to support manufacturing and operation targets.
• Lead and mentor a design-engineering team; oversee suppliers and reviews.
• Review drawings for compliance with design intent and tolerance; ensure manufacturability.
• Perform design layout revisions to meet cost/weight/manufacturing goals.
• Collaborate with multiple stakeholders during design, production, and test phases.
• Prepare manuals and processes; mentor teammates and transfer knowledge.
• Provide timely design support and clear technical reports.
