Job summary

Virgin Galactic seeks a Specialist Structures Design Engineer to drive aerospace vehicle structural design from concept through production. Based in Tustin, CA, this on-site role involves leading a team of design engineers, coordinating supplier work, and ensuring drawings and manufacturing plans meet design intent and safety standards.

Responsibilities include creating 3D parts/assemblies, reviewing tolerances, and supporting test definitions.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
12+ years of experience in the aerospace industry with a strong design emphasis.
In-depth knowledge of composite aircraft structural design and industry standards.
Experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.5, tolerancing, drawing creation, and tolerance stack‑up analysis.
Proven ability to communicate and present technical material to stakeholders.
Autonomy, creativity, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Experience leading teams of design engineers.

Responsibilities

Pioneer conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs of aircraft/spacecraft structural configurations.
Lead and coordinate activities of a design engineering team.
Review drawings and manufacturing procedures for compliance with design requirements.
Support production and operations to ensure flight readiness.
Mentor teammates and provide design engineering support.
