Job summary

Medtronic in Warsaw, Indiana is seeking an Additive Metals Principal Technology Development Engineer to drive metal additive manufacturing capabilities across the operations network. You will optimize existing L-PBF processes, mature new technologies, and lead feasibility testing and DOE studies to deliver scalable manufacturing solutions.

You will collaborate across teams, mentor junior engineers, and support technology transfer into production while traveling up to 25% as needed.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 5+ years with an advanced degree.
• Expertise in metal additive manufacturing and material characterization.
• Experience with design controls, validation, and PDP cycles in medical device contexts.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain deep technical expertise in metal additive manufacturing (including Laser Powder Bed Fusion), metallurgical principles, and material characterization.
• Lead process optimization, DOE studies, and advanced analytical evaluations to improve capability and readiness.
• Collaborate with internal and external experts to optimize end-to-end manufacturing workflows and technology transfer.
• Translate VOC, VOR, and VOB into manufacturing development strategy and investments.
• Coordinate feasibility testing at vendors and Medtronic facilities; document strategy and business cases.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers; participate in design and development studies.
