Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Lead Accounts Payable Specialist to join our growing construction company in Portland, Oregon. This leadership role is pivotal in overseeing the full accounts payable cycle, managing a team, and ensuring timely and accurate processing of all vendor invoices and payments. The ideal candidate will possess strong supervisory skills, a deep understanding of construction accounting practices, and proficiency in relevant accounting software.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Team Leadership & Development: Supervise, train, and mentor the accounts payable team to ensure efficient and accurate processing of invoices and payments. Foster a collaborative environment, encouraging continuous improvement and adherence to best practices.
  2. Invoice & Payment Processing: Oversee the full-cycle accounts payable process, including receipt, verification, and payment of vendor invoices. Ensure compliance with company policies and contractual terms, including lien release procedures and general ledger coding.
  3. Vendor Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for vendor inquiries, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining positive relationships. Negotiate payment terms and manage vendor accounts to optimize cash flow.
  4. Reconciliation & Reporting: Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Prepare and analyze accounts payable reports to assess performance and identify areas for improvement.
  5. Compliance & Internal Controls: Implement and maintain internal controls to prevent errors and fraud in the accounts payable process. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and audit requirements.
  6. System Management & Process Improvement: Utilize accounting software (e.g., CMiC, NetSuite) to manage accounts payable functions. Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Associates degree or equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of accounts payable experience, with at least 2 years in a lead role within the construction industry. Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., CMiC, Sage, Newstar) is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and team management abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Certifications: AP certification or equivalent is a plus.
