Job summary

General Motors is seeking a 2nd Shift Maintenance Group Leader to guide the maintenance team in the Body Shop and Paint area at the Global Artisan Innovation Center. You will set priorities, coach technicians, and collaborate with production and engineering to keep equipment safe and available for pre-production operations.

You will respond to equipment issues, drive preventive and predictive maintenance, and use data-driven problem solving to improve reliability.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of industrial maintenance experience.
• Two or more years supervising maintenance work or a skilled-trades team.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and maintenance procedures.
• Experience with preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and equipment reliability.
• Working knowledge of safe work practices, energy control, hazard recognition, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee second-shift maintenance work across the Body Shop and Paint area.
• Set daily priorities for preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance.
• Coach and develop maintenance team members through clear expectations, standard work, training, and feedback.
• Reinforce safe work practices and environmental standards; manage energy control and PPE requirements.
• Coordinate troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, controls, robotic, welding, conveyors, and ventilation equipment.
• Partner with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Safety, Facilities, and outside service providers to protect build schedules.
• Review shift conditions, open work, equipment concerns, and staffing needs; ensure complete handoffs to other shifts.
• Monitor work-order execution, preventive-maintenance completion, downtime, and parts availability.
• Use data and structured problem solving to eliminate recurring equipment issues and improve reliability.
• Support equipment installations, modifications, commissioning, process changes, or continuous-improvement projects.
