Job summary

The ideal candidate is a licensed customs broker with deep technical expertise, sound judgment, and leadership skills to strengthen processes and mentor a team.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of customs brokerage experience, including supervisory or management exposure.
  • Deep knowledge of HTS classification, valuation, origin, and U.S. import rules.
  • Experience with CBP penalties, audits, protests, and disclosures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enforce customs compliance policies aligned with 19 CFR Part 111 and CBP standards.
  • Supervise brokerage operations including entry writers and filers.
  • Conduct regular internal audits of entries for classification, valuation, and duty accuracy.
  • Review high-risk entries, guide classification and trade program questions.
  • Oversee post summary corrections, protests, and disclosures as needed.
  • Manage CBP inquiries, CF-28/CF-29, notices of action, penalties.
  • Monitor tariff changes and PGA requirements; ensure regulatory filings.

Altius Talent is partnering with an established international freight forwarding and customs brokerage firm supporting importers and exporters across a range of industries. The company is known for its strong compliance culture, hands-on service, and long-standing client relationships.

Position Overview

The LCB Compliance Manager will lead the company's customs compliance program, ensuring all brokerage activity meets CBP and Partner Government Agency requirements. This role serves as the internal authority on trade compliance, overseeing entry quality, supervising the brokerage team, and advising both staff and clients on regulatory matters. The ideal candidate is a licensed customs broker with deep technical expertise, sound judgment, and the leadership skills to strengthen processes and mentor a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce the company's customs compliance policies and procedures in line with 19 CFR Part 111 and CBP reasonable care standards
  • Provide responsible supervision and control over brokerage operations, including entry writers, filers, and support staff
  • Conduct regular internal audits of entries covering HTS classification, valuation, country of origin, and duty and fee accuracy
  • Review and approve complex or high-risk entries, and guide the team on difficult classification, valuation, and trade program questions
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of post summary corrections, protests, and prior disclosures as needed
  • Manage responses to CBP inquiries and enforcement actions, including CF-28 and CF-29 requests, notices of action, liquidated damages, and penalty cases
  • Monitor and communicate changes in tariffs and trade regulations, including Section 301/232 duties, AD/CVD, and forced labor requirements
  • Ensure proper filing and compliance with PGA requirements such as FDA, USDA, EPA, and CPSC
  • Oversee power of attorney management, recordkeeping, and document retention in accordance with CBP requirements
  • Maintain broker license requirements, including triennial status reporting and continuing regulatory obligations
  • Design and deliver compliance training for internal teams and clients
  • Advise clients on compliance risks, best practices, duty-saving opportunities, and audit readiness
  • Use ACE reports and data tools to identify trends, errors, and areas for process improvement
  • Partner with operations, customer service, and management to align compliance objectives with business goals
Key Skills & Qualifications
  • 5+ years of customs brokerage experience, including 2+ years in a compliance, supervisory, or management capacity
  • Expert knowledge of HTS classification, valuation, country of origin, and U.S. import regulations
  • Strong working knowledge of ACE and brokerage software (CargoWise preferred)
  • Experience handling CBP penalties, audits, protests, and prior disclosures
  • Familiarity with PGA requirements, FTAs, and special duty programs
  • Proven ability to lead, train, and develop a team
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulations clearly
  • Knowledge of the New York/New Jersey trade community is a plus
