Job summary

County of Lancaster is seeking a paraprofessional to support the Lancaster County Law Library in daily operations, including updating materials, catalog maintenance, and reference assistance to attorneys, judges, and the public. Reporting to the Law Librarian, you will manage file updates, circulation tasks, and basic acquisitions while assisting patrons with legal research and using online resources.

Qualifications

  • Education equivalent to high school completion with library/law coursework.
  • Three to five years paraprofessional experience in a judicial or law-related setting or three to five years in a specialized library setting.
  • Any combination of acceptable education and experience meeting the knowledge and abilities listed.

Responsibilities

  • File replacement pages and updates in law library volumes; prepare materials for binding.
  • Check in/out materials; reshelve items; collect overdue fines and record payments.
  • Sort mail; assist in weedings and acquisitions; help with routine communications with publishers.
  • Answer basic reference questions from attorneys, judges, court staff and the public; interpret legal cites.
  • Perform clerical tasks; operate office equipment; maintain online catalogs and data entry; assist with Word/Excel documents.
