Job summary

State of Minnesota Board of Public Defense is seeking law clerks to assist in providing direct services to clients under supervision of experienced attorneys. Duties include legal research, drafting briefs, and assisting in trial preparation, including going to court.

The role supports work in district or appellate offices with supervision from Chief Public Defender, Managing Attorney, or Assistant Public Defender. Enrollment in an accredited law school is required.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled and attending law school from an accredited law school.
• Coursework in legal writing, criminal law and/or procedures is desired, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct services to clients under supervision of experienced attorneys.
• Perform legal research and draft briefs.
• Assist in trial preparation and go to court as needed.
• Work in district or appellate offices under supervision of Chief Public Defender, Managing Attorney, or Assistant Public Defender.
