Job summary

The Washington County Court of Common Pleas is accepting applications for a Law Clerk. The Clerk provides professional level legal work as a research assistant supporting Judges of Washington County. The Judicial Law Clerk work involves providing members of the judiciary with assistance in preparation of writing briefs, opinions and similar material.

Salary Information: $65,849.50. Benefits include healthcare coverage, paid time off and retirement.

Qualifications

• Requires a law degree from an accredited institution.
• Admission to the Pennsylvania bar is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Research legal topics and draft opinions and orders, as well as correspondence.
• Attend Court proceedings, including hearings, trials, routine motions, and pleas, as requested by the Judge.
• Complete sentencing forms as required by the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing.
• Organize, schedule, and maintain the case list, briefing and argument schedules.
• Communicate with the public and attorneys, by telephone or in person.
• Attend conferences with the Judge, attorney and litigants.
• Attend educational sessions for civil, criminal, family court, orphans court updates.
