Job summary

The Washington County Court of Common Pleas is seeking a Law Clerk to provide professional level legal work as a research assistant supporting Judges.

You will draft opinions, perform legal research, attend court proceedings, organize case lists, and communicate with attorneys and the public. This role offers exposure to civil, criminal, family court matters and opportunities to observe voir dire and run sentencing forms.

Qualifications

• Law degree from an accredited institution is required.
• Admission to the Pennsylvania bar is preferred.
• Experience as a clerk or research assistant is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Research legal topics and draft opinions and orders, as well as correspondence.
• Attend court proceedings, including hearings, trials, routine motions, and pleas, as requested by the Judge.
• Organize, schedule, and maintain the case list, briefing and argument schedules.
• Communicate with the public and attorneys, by telephone or in person.
• Attend conferences with the Judge, attorney and litigants.
• Attend educational sessions for civil, criminal, family court, orphans court updates.
