Job summary

VEG is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced team in Boston. You will support the care team, assist with treatments, and be involved in triage and patient care from day one.

We offer pathways for credentialed growth, mentorship, and training, including CPR and RECOVER certification. This role supports a dynamic ER culture with opportunities across anesthesia and ultrasound as you progress.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and EMR.
Excellent communicator when collaborating with pet parents and your team.
Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and lift up to 25 kg solo (40 kg with assistance).
Willingness to work in a noisy environment with odors.
Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with people from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Be the first warm welcome and triage patients.
Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
Work alongside credentialed technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation.
Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and meds.
Assist during outpatient or inpatient care, from exam room to treatment area.
Join patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
Learn CPR and obtain RECOVER Certification (training provided).
Grow into advanced responsibilities like anesthesia support and ultrasound.
Operate within state law constraints.
