Position Summary:

The Launch Technician is a hands-on, entry-level technical role that plays a vital part in supporting the successful launch of new products in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Working directly under the Launch Manager, the Launch Technician helps move parts through the development process, ensures manufacturing readiness, and helps identify and resolve issues that may impact timing, quality, or performance of new product launches.

This role provides an excellent foundation for future growth into engineering positions within Process Engineering or New Product Development (NPD). It is ideally suited for individuals with a strong mechanical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and a desire to learn and grow within a dynamic production setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the day-to-day execution of new product launches by physically marshalling parts through each phase of the manufacturing process, from raw material through final assembly and inspection.
  • Monitor part movement and proactively identify bottlenecks, material shortages, or processing delays that could impact launch timing.
  • Assist in the coordination of sample builds, pilot runs, and pre-production trials, working closely with Production, Quality, and Engineering to ensure accuracy and build readiness.
  • Visually and dimensionally inspect in-process parts to identify obvious non-conformances or specification risks prior to downstream operations.
  • Communicate part-specific needs, open issues, or process changes clearly to the cross-functional team (CFT) including Engineering, Program Management, and Operations.
  • Support the Launch Manager and engineering teams with basic documentation tasks such as labeling, tracking sample runs, collecting production data, or entering notes into HELM or GMAPS systems.
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective action efforts when launch issues arise, helping identify potential process or communication gaps.
  • Assist in organizing work instructions, part-specific documentation, and samples for review or PPAP submission.
  • Operate tools, jigs, or basic equipment as required to support the part development process (training provided).

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Technology) or equivalent hands-on experience in a production or technical environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of manufacturing processes (glass experience is a plus).
  • Self-starter with high initiative, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to provide clear feedback to engineers and cross-functional teams.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office; experience with ERP or launch systems a plus.
  • Comfortable working on the production floor and interacting with multiple departments in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.
  • Mechanical & Technical Aptitude
  • Initiative & Proactive Problem Solving
  • Detail Orientation & Documentation
  • Continuous Learning & Adaptability
