Job summary

Anchor Fabrication in Walnut, MS is seeking an experienced lathe machinist to read blueprints, set up and operate lathes, and ensure parts meet exact specifications. You will use micrometers and gauges to inspect pieces and work with CNC machinery in a fast-paced shop environment.

The role requires at least two years of lathe experience, solid understanding of metal properties, and strong English reporting and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Two years of proven lathe machinist experience.
• Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Knowledge of the properties of metal and other materials.
• Experience working with CNC machines.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools and equipment.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training is a plus.
• Ability to write reports in English.
• Ability to present information in English.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to understand part specifications.
• Set up, adjust and operate lathe machines to carry out machining operations.
• Check finished workpieces for conformance with specs using micrometers and gauges.
• Maintain and clean lathes and other machinery to ensure longevity and functionality.
• Monitor machining processes to prevent malfunctions and production errors.
• Replace worn lathe cutting tools and sharpen dull cutting tools.
• Adjust machine feed and speed if machines malfunction.
• Develop templates and models for new or modified parts.
• Coordinate with team to resolve machining or production issues.

Position Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $21.00 - $27.00 Hourly

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to understand the specifications of a part to be created or repaired
• Setting up, adjusting and operating lathe machines to carry out machining operations
• Checking finished workpieces to ensure they meet specifications, using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and gauges
• Maintaining and cleaning lathes and other machinery to ensure their longevity and functionality
• Monitoring machining processes to prevent machine malfunctions and production errors
• Replacing worn lathe cutting tools and sharpening dull cutting tools
• Adjusting machine feed and speed if machines malfunction
• Developing templates and models for new or modified parts
• Communicating with team members and supervisors to coordinate work and resolve machining or production issues

• Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail
• A high school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training is a plus
• Ability to write reports in the English language
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of supervisors and/or managers in the English language
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizations exists
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
• Punctual and dependable attendance record

Physical Demands

• Ability to work in high paced environment
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds
• Exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors and chemicals
