Job summary

Kids for the Future in Lynchburg, VA, is seeking a skilled CNC lathe/mill operator to set up, program, operate and troubleshoot machining centers. You will read blueprints and GD&T specs, select and maintain cutting tools, and verify parts with precision measuring tools to meet tolerances.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience programming and operating CNC lathes and mills.

  • Overtime and weekend work may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, operate, and troubleshoot CNC lathes and mills.
  • Interpret blueprints and drawings to complete tasks.
  • Use micrometers, bore gauges and inspection tools to verify tolerances with GD&T.
  • Install and maintain cutting tools and tooling; perform maintenance as needed.
  • Load/unload materials safely and maintain a clean, organized shop.
  • Follow procedures and safety standards; comply with quality requirements.

Description

Set up, program, operate, and troubleshoot CNC lathes and milling machines to produce quality parts while maintaining safe work practices. Perform machining operations efficiently and accurately in accordance with production requirements and established procedures.

Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities

Set up, power on, program, operate, and troubleshoot CNC lathes and mills while performing all machining operations in a safe, efficient, and productive manner.

Accurately interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications to complete machining tasks.

Use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, bore gauges, and other inspection tools, to verify parts meet required tolerances. Apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles as needed.

Identify, install, and maintain cutting tools, inserts, and related tooling. Perform routine machine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance.

Safely load and unload raw materials and castings while verifying completed parts meet required specifications.

Work collaboratively with coworkers and assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient machine shop.

Follow established manufacturing procedures and work instructions while complying with all quality standards, safety requirements, regulations, and company policies.

Must be able to accurately read and use a tape measure.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Technical Skills

High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Technical certification, vocational training, or formal education in machining is preferred.

A minimum of two (2) years of experience programming and operating CNC lathes and mills.

Proficient in reading blueprints, applying GD&T principles, and using precision measuring instruments.

Ability to effectively operate hand tools and machining tooling. Experience with CNC ROTAX and manual lathe programming is considered a plus.

Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while adapting to changing production priorities.

Must be available to work required overtime and weekends as business demands.

Must be able to frequently bend, lift, kneel, and work at floor level throughout the workday.

Must be capable of safely operating power hand tools.

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
