Job summary

Technique, a Michigan-based precision sheet metal and welded assemblies manufacturer, is seeking a Laser Technician in Jackson, MI. You will set up, program, and operate 2D and 5-axis laser systems to cut stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum parts.

You will inspect first articles and adjust processes to meet tight tolerances. The role requires 2+ years of laser cutting experience, blueprints and GD&T proficiency, and CNC nesting software skills.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of laser cutting experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Experience with fiber or CO2 laser systems; 5-axis laser experience preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T notation.
• Experience with CNC programming and nesting software.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 2D flat-sheet and 5-axis laser cutting systems, including loading material and verifying machine parameters.
• Create, edit, and optimize laser programs and nests using CNC/CAM software to maximize material yield and cycle time.
• Build and set up fixtures to accurately locate and laser trim stampings, formed parts, and tubing.
• Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMM reports.
• Diagnose cut-quality issues and adjust power, speed, focus, gas pressure, and part offsets to correct them.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on laser equipment and replace nozzles and consumables.
• Maintain accurate job documentation, setup sheets, and program records.
• Follow laser safety practices and PPE requirements; keep area clean and organized.
• Train operators on machine setup, operation, and part quality expectations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Laser Supervisor.
