Job summary

Thorlabs in Jessup, MD is hiring an Engineering Technician to join a manufacturing-focused engineering team. You will assemble and test lasers, generate and revise process documents, and train production staff on updated procedures.

The role requires handling delicate optical components and using precision test equipment. Qualifications include an associate degree or equivalent experience plus at least 2 years in semiconductor/laser/optical production or R&D.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in engineering, technology, or physical science; or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 2 years in semiconductor, laser, or optical system production or R&D.
• Ability to handle critical and fragile optical components and sensitive equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and test lasers and laser systems using production and engineering instructions.
• Generate and revise controlled documents such as work instructions and manuals.
• Train teams on new or revised controlled documentation.
• Use optical test instruments, laser welders, splicing equipment, and related tools.
• Troubleshoot hardware/software issues on production equipment.
• Document failures and track equipment performance for quality control.
