Job summary

Thorlabs in Jessup, MD is seeking an Assembly Technician Level I to assemble laser systems and accessories. You will perform electrical, mechanical, and optical fiber assembly, capturing test data, and preparing products for shipment in a controlled environment.

Ideal candidates have 0-3 years in electronics or photonics and can follow detailed instructions, use precision tools, and maintain accurate ERP records. Cleanroom discipline and teamwork are required.

Qualifications

• Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office is required.
• Familiarity with soldering and crimping for electrical assembly is a plus.
• Experience in electronics, fiber optics, photonics or related field is preferred (0-3 years).

Responsibilities

• Build electrical, mechanical, and optical assemblies according to work instructions.
• Perform basic electronic soldering and crimping tasks in accordance with procedures.
• Operate sensitive production equipment such as fiber splicers and optical test instruments following procedures.
• Handle and assemble opto-mechanical components and assemblies with fragile optics/fibers.
• Perform laser and accessory system alignments following procedures.
• Maintain data systems to record and report test results.
• Follow work instructions and production documentation for complex systems.
• Follow cleanroom protocols and maintain cleanliness in work areas.
• Provide continuous improvement feedback on procedures and processes.
• Meet output and quality goals.
