Job summary

Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Coordinator of Large Animal Research to support veterinarians with advanced procedures and reproductive management in teaching and funded research.

The role requires flexible scheduling, safe handling of large animals, and adherence to IACUC guidelines. This position offers opportunities to contribute to teaching, clinical care, and research within a dynamic veterinary program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related field required.
  • 2+ years of experience handling and safely managing large animals; working knowledge of large animal reproduction.

Responsibilities

  • Manages large animals for research and teaching needs in compliance with IACUC guidelines.
  • Operates, maintains, and cleans laboratory facilities and equipment; manages inventories.
  • Facilitates veterinary diagnostics and treatments, including medications and vaccines.
  • Trains laboratory animal caretakers and students in care, preventative medicine, sampling, and animal handling.
  • Inspects facilities, equipment, and animal health status daily; monitors environmental conditions.
  • Assists researchers with examination, treatment, research projects, surgery, restraint, sampling, and emergency care.
  • Observes and records data, abnormal clinical signs, and collects specimens.
  • Operates equipment (loaders, skid steers, tractors, forklifts) to move heavy objects/animals.
  • Supports reproductive management and teaching herd goals, including pasture management and rotational grazing.
  • Assists with teaching labs, animal demonstrations, tours, and summer education programs.
  • Maintains daily records of animals used for teaching, research, and outreach; aids in regulatory protocol development.
