Job description

Lansing Community Coordinator | Michigan FIRE Action (a project of the YCA)

Our vision is to build and seed sustainable civic infrastructure that centers young people, BIPOC communities, and working‑class voters, especially those historically excluded from political power. Through bold organizing, strategic civic engagement, and aligned electoral programming, this new formation will seek to build power, shape narrative, and drive measurable outcomes across elections and issue‑based campaigns.

We believe that long‑term political transformation in our country requires bold experimentation, strong operational alignment, and a willingness to invest in shared infrastructure while coordinating local efforts under a cohesive national strategy. By uniting state affiliates within a clearly defined set of political priorities, we can leverage the advantages of collective resources and coordination, even as each affiliate tailors its approach to meet the distinct needs of its community.

Position Summary

Community Coordinators are the frontline street squad driving Michigan FIRE (MF) / Michigan FIRE Action (MFA)’s mission in key regions and communities in Michigan. Community Coordinators participate in robust, on‑the‑ground civic engagement and education efforts as well as community, identity, and membership building programs focused on empowering young people, especially youth of color and working‑class youth.

This role will be responsible for executing MF’s civic engagement and education efforts as well as community, identity, and membership building programs, managing event logistics and recruitment for those events, attending campus organizational meetings, and maintaining social media channels to elevate civic content.

This role is for someone energized by talking to new people, passionate about civic power, and eager to turn our targeted regions into hubs of youth democratic and community participation. The strongest candidates will be bold, creative, and deeply committed to meeting students where they are.
