Job summary

Nebraska Medicine invites applications for a Medical Interpreter to provide and coordinate oral interpretation and written translation for patients, families, and staff across our clinical enterprise. The role requires strong English/Spanish fluency and prior healthcare translation experience.

Minimum two years of translation work, high school diploma, and completion of an approved Medical Interpreter Training Course within 60 days of hire are required; training is provided.

  • Requires at least two years of translation experience in English/Spanish (verbal and written).
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Healthcare setting experience preferred.
  • Completion of an approved Medical Interpreter Training Course within 60 days of hire (training provided).
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, with strong cultural familiarity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and Spanish Word.

Provide and coordinate oral interpretation and written translation services for patients, families, customers, and staff of the clinical enterprise.

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two years’ experience with language translation in both verbal and written communication required.
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in a health care setting required.
  • Completion of an approved Medical Interpreter Training Course within 60 days of hire or transfer date required (Training provided within the department onboarding process).
  • Fluency in both verbal and written communication of the English and Spanish languages as well as familiarity with target cultures and customs required.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to organize and manage multiple concurrent tasks required.
  • Proficiency with computer programs for Microsoft Word, Excel, and Spanish Word required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in languages, health care, or related field is preferred.
  • Previous completion of an approved Medical Interpreter training course preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Propio One (telephone service), statistical databases, and video relay interpretation equipment preferred.
