Job summary

Faribault Public Schools is seeking a full-time Long Term Substitute Language Arts Teacher at Faribault High School to cover five high school Language Arts courses and foster a supportive, engaging learning environment.

The ideal candidate will hold Minnesota Language Arts licensure and collaborate with EL/SPED staff, Student Success Coordinator, and curriculum teams. The assignment runs 10/5/26–12/22/26 with professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

Job Title:

1.0 FTE Long Term Substitute Secondary Language Arts Teacher Faribault High School

General Description

A full-time (1.0 FTE) Language Arts teacher at Faribault High School. The position will teach five high school language arts courses. The ideal candidate will create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students are challenged and empowered to learn and grow. This position will start on 10/5/26 and end on 12/22/26.

Essential Functions
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials providing effective teaching strategies adhering to the District philosophy and vision.
  • Creates a classroom environment that responds to the needs of individual learners.
  • Plans and implements a program of study designed to meet individual students needs.
  • Recognizes learning problems and makes referrals as appropriate.
  • Encourages student enthusiasm for the learning process and development of good study habits.
  • Adheres to health and safety policies including using precautions of safety and health plans.
  • Communicates with parents in a timely manner; maintains positive and constructive communication with students, staff, parents and community.
  • Shares responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in all areas of the school.
  • Protects students, equipment, materials and facilities taking necessary and reasonable precautions.
  • Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time.
  • Works cooperatively with parents and other staff members to reinforce the educational program for each child.
  • Attends workshops, seminars and conferences as well as staff, department, curricular development and committee meetings and staff-development sessions as required.
  • Encourages and facilitates work of other staff members in a collaborative, supportive environment.
  • Evaluates accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods.
  • Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics and state and federal laws.
  • Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and is willing to share this knowledge for continual improvement of the school's curriculum.
  • Works cooperatively with special education and EL staff to report student progress and growth, as applicable.
  • Works with the Student Success Coordinator, district literacy coach(s) and curriculum to develop a strong classroom environment.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Must be able to build strong, positive relationships with families and students.
  • Must be able to recognize Communication Arts/Literature Standards and how to build standards-based lessons.
  • Should be comfortable using 1:1 technology and maintaining a positive, professional culture in accordance with School Board policies.
Licensure

Current License by the State of Minnesota in Language Arts (Communication Arts/Literature).

Faribault Public Schools is a rural Pre-K through Adult School District located about 50 miles south of the Twin-Cities.
