Job Description Summary

The Landscape Technician performs various manual duties indeveloping and maintaining the grounds, drives, walks, and parkingareas of the Reynolda campus and certain designated off-campusproperties.

Job Description

Essential Functions

• Keeps campus grounds, walks, and drives clean by removingtrash, garbage, and other debris.
• Seeds fertilizes, plants, waters, weeds, trims, and grooms thelawns, shrubbery, and trees.
• Operates and handles various types of grounds maintenanceequipment (i.e. power mowers, edgers, and power blowers).
• Operates light or medium-weight trucks to pick up and delivermaterials and supplies; operates light or medium-weight tractorsand attachments used to maintain grounds, as required.
• Loads and unloads furniture and other materials; transport todesignated locations utilizing various equipment.
• Assists in the preparation of fields for special events.
• Performs a variety of semi-skilled manual duties requiring abasic understanding and knowledge of techniques, tools, equipment,and safety precautions.
• Inspects equipment and vehicles daily to ensure safe and properworking order; ensures proper preventative maintenance measures arebeing implemented.
• Works in an efficient productive manner; reports all matters ofsafety to the appropriate Landscape Foreperson and the SafetyDirector, if necessary.
• Experience working and communicating with a diverse group ofstudents, faculty, staff and visitors.

Other Functions

This position may be designated as essential personnel to supportbusiness continuity during campus emergencies, disasters, or otherspecial needs as directed by management. Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• High school diploma or GED, with up to 4 years of relatedexperience or an equivalent combination of education andexperience.
• Ability to meet the requirements of the University’s automobileinsurance.
• Basic understanding and knowledge of techniques, tools,equipment, and safety precautions.
• Ability to understand and follow specific instructions andprocedures in English sufficient to perform the duties of theposition.
• Ability to follow all University and departmental policies andprocedures.
• Ability to relate to others beyond giving and receiving ofinstructions, can get along with colleagues or peers withoutexhibiting behavioral extremes, and respond appropriately tocritiques (good and bad) from a manager or foreperson.

• Knowledge of grounds maintenance and turf equipmentoperations.

Physical Requirements:

• Activities occur both inside and outside, subject to bothenvironmental conditions. Subject to noise, vibrations, hazards,atmospheric conditions, and oils.
