Job summary

The Catholic Cemeteries Association of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland is seeking a Landscape Technician to perform general cemetery landscape maintenance across multiple Northeast Ohio locations. You will follow the Landscape Manager's directions, meet safety guidelines, and complete tasks on schedule.

Responsibilities include pruning, planting, operating various equipment, and maintaining sites while ensuring safety and quality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 1-3 years of direct relevant experience in landscape or cemetery care.
• 10-hour OSHA General Industry certification is required.
• Valid driver’s license is required; CDL preferred.
• Willing to obtain Ohio Commercial Spray License.

Responsibilities

• Implement plans provided by supervisor and landscape manager.
• Adhere to safety policies and guidelines in all tasks.
• Maintain equipment, vehicles, and worksites in good condition.
• Trim and prune trees and shrubs as directed.
• Plant trees, shrubs, or flowers according to design plans.
• Operate lawn care equipment (mowers, trimmers, backhoe, etc.).
• Lift up to 75 pounds regularly and apply herbicides/fertilizers as instructed.
• Prepare gravesites and support field operations as needed.
• Maintain OSHA PPE certificates and safety standards.
• Assist across cemeteries daily as needed.

Job description

The Landscape Technician will carry out general landscape maintenance duties for all cemeteries as provided by the Landscape Manager. This position is responsible for the implementation of all directions provided by the Landscape and Maintenance Manager, including completing operations on time and meeting all safety guidelines and requirements. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, snow removal and other general cemetery care and landscaping matters within the field.

Compensation: Non-Exempt: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour, based on direct relevant experience

Employment Type: Full-time

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:15 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.

Travel: Ability to travel to different CCA cemeteries throughout Northeast Ohio daily.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement plans as provided by supervisor.
• Ensure all work is completed in adherence to safety policies and guidelines.
• Maintain a high level of good housekeeping and care of company assets in the field, vehicles, shop, and worksites.
• Trim and prune trees and shrubbery as required by supervisor.
• Plants trees, shrubs, or flowers, according to instructions and planned design of landscaped area.
• May operate a variety of equipment, including but not limited to, mowers, string trimmers, Cushman, backhoe, dump truck, tractor, bed edger, hedge trimmer, chain saw.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis.
• Apply herbicide and fertilizer to designated areas, using sprayers and spreaders.
• Prepare and maintain gravesite as directed by supervisor.
• May be used in field as needed.
• Maintain OSHA PPE certificate.
• Ability to hand pull weeds around bushes, trees, and flower beds.
• Maintains awareness of landscaping best practices and plant knowledge.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

What You Will Need to Succeed

Education & Qualifications:

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
• 1-3 years of direct relevant experience
• 10-hour OSHA Certified, General Industry
• Current, valid driver's license
• Current, valid CDL license preferred
• Willing to obtain current, valid Ohio Commercial Spray License
• Successful completion of a pre-employment background check, drug screening, and physical exam required
• Excellent written, oral and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work within a team environment while balancing individual responsibility
• Ability to complete jobs on time
• Excellent attention to safety procedures and ability to implement safety procedures and maintain a safe environment
• Ability to read and interpret written communication

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and/or squatting
• Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions on a regular basis
• Ability to lift 75 lbs. on a regular basis
• On-site, in person, with the ability to report to different cemeteries within the Association daily
• Monday through Friday schedule; no weekend work required
• Exposure to outside weather conditions on a daily basis
• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, and vibration
