Job summary

Hanleyri in Portsmouth, RI is seeking a crew lead for our landscape construction team. You will guide daily field operations, lead a 2–4 person crew, and ensure projects run on time and with high craftsmanship.

You will read landscape plans, operate power tools safely, and coordinate with the Site Foreman and Project Manager throughout residential and commercial sites year-round.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of landscape construction experience with hardscape and masonry
• Ability to read and interpret landscape plans
• 1–2 years of leadership or crew management experience

We are a design and build firm based in Portsmouth, Rhode Island that creates high-end landscapes throughout coastal New England. From site planning to finished stonework and plantings, we design, build, and maintain spaces that feel timeless, intentional, and uniquely tailored to each property.

Your Day & Team Looks Like:

Your day starts at 6:45 AM at our Portsmouth yard with a quick team meeting. As crew lead, you’ll help guide that meeting checking in with team members about their assignments and making sure trucks and trailers are properly loaded for the day’s project. Once you hit the road, you’ll lead your crew on a mix of construction and planting jobs throughout coastal Rhode Island.

You’ll work closely with our Site Foreman to manage workflow, maintain quality and safety standards, and keep projects running smoothly. You’ll problem-solve on site, help plan ahead for materials and equipment, and make sure the day ends as organized as it began.

We work year-round, so you’ll stay busy in the winter as much as weather allows.

You Are:

Someone who loves being outdoors and takes pride in building things that last. You’ve spent 3–5 years in landscape construction, with experience in hardscaping, planting, and leading teams. You can read a landscape plan, operate power tools safely, and know how to keep a crew moving efficiently. You care about craftsmanship, teamwork, and getting the details right.

Requirements:

3–5 years of landscape construction experience (hardscape and masonry experience absolutely required).

1–2 years of leadership or crew management experience.

Ability to read and interpret landscape plans.

Working knowledge of power tools, compact equipment, and jobsite safety.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

OSHA-10 (or ability to obtain within 30 days).

DOT medical card (or ability to obtain within 30 days).

Willingness to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.

Availability for on-call snow operations in winter.
