Job summary

University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking a Landscape Assistant to join the UO Landscape Services team on the Lincoln campus. You will maintain a high-quality landscape across assigned areas, perform planting, pruning, litter removal, soil renovation, and assist with renovations and improvements.

You’ll also handle snow and ice removal, operate and maintain landscape equipment, and keep records and work orders. Must adapt to all weather and meet licensing requirements within six months.

Qualifications

Good time management and organizational skills.
Familiar with and able to operate tools and machinery.
Able to work from a ladder and/or aerial equipment.
Ability to obtain a Nebraska Dept of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator license within six months of hire.
Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirement

Responsibilities

Maintain a high-quality landscape in assigned area including planting, plant care, waste and litter clean-up, and soil renovation.
Remove snow and ice from steps, sidewalks, ramps, drives, and other areas using manual and powered equipment.
Perform planting, weeding, fertilizing, and pest control tasks on lawns, shrubs, and trees using appropriate equipment.
Operate and maintain equipment, tools, and machinery.
Assist with landscape maintenance, renovations, and repairs.
Mow lawns and prune trees and shrubs using manual and powered equipment.
Inspect and monitor assigned areas and ensure deadlines for projects and tasks are met.
Maintain records, forms, and work orders.

Preferred Qualifications

Horticulture degree or related field, relevant coursework, or specialized training beyond high school.
2+ years experience in grounds keeping and/or horticultural.
Commercial Driver’s License ( CDL ) license.
