Job summary

University of Nebraska–Lincoln is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Technician to uphold high-quality landscape care across campus. This on-site role involves planting, mowing, pruning, and upkeep of lawns, trees, and shrubs.

You will remove snow and ice, operate and maintain equipment, and assist with renovations and repairs while keeping careful records and meeting deadlines. The position requires following instructions, strong time management, and endurance in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain Nebraska Pesticide Applicator license within six months.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high-quality landscape in assigned area.
  • Remove snow and ice from steps, sidewalks, ramps, drives, and other areas.
  • Plant, weed, fertilize, and perform pest control on lawns, shrubs, and trees.
  • Operate and maintain equipment, tools, and machinery.
  • Assist with landscape maintenance, renovations, and repairs.
  • Mow lawns and prune trees and shrubs.
  • Inspect areas and meet project deadlines.
  • Maintain records, forms, and work orders.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a high-quality landscape in assigned area, which includes but is not limited to planting, plant care and maintenance, waste and litter clean-up, and soil renovation.
  • Remove snow and ice from steps, sidewalks, ramps, drives, and other areas using manual and powered equipment.
  • Perform planting, weeding, fertilizing, and pest control tasks on lawns, shrubs, and trees using appropriate equipment.
  • Operate and maintain equipment, tools, and machinery.
  • Assist with landscape maintenance, renovations, and repairs.
  • Mow lawns and prune trees and shrubs using manual and powered equipment.
  • Inspect and monitor assigned areas and ensure deadlines for projects and tasks are met.
  • Maintain records, forms, and work orders.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Thinking and reasoning skills.
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Familiar with and able to operate tools and machinery.
  • Able to work from a ladder and/or aerial equipment.
  • Ability to frequently travel to various work areas on campus and work in all weather conditions.
  • Available 24/7 for snow and ice removal emergencies.
  • Ability to obtain a Nebraska Dept of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator license within six months of hire (on-the-job training and license fees are provided).
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet University driver eligibility requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Horticulture degree or related field, relevant coursework, or specialized training beyond high school.
  • 2+ years experience in grounds keeping and/or horticultural.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) license.
