Job summary

University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking a Landscape Assistant to maintain high-quality landscapes across campus. Responsibilities include planting, pruning, weed control, and soil renovation while ensuring timely completion of projects.

You will operate equipment, perform seasonal snow/ice removal, and help with maintenance, renovations, and record-keeping. Excellent organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to work in all weather are essential.

  • Familiar with and able to operate tools and machinery.
  • Able to work from a ladder and/or aerial equipment.
  • Ability to frequently travel to various work areas on campus and work in all weather conditions.
  • Available 24/7 for snow and ice removal emergencies.
  • Ability to obtain a Nebraska Dept of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator license within six months of hire (on-the-job training and license fees are provided).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirement

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high-quality landscape in assigned area, which includes planting, plant care and maintenance, waste and litter clean-up, and soil renovation.
  • Remove snow and ice from steps, sidewalks, ramps, drives, and other areas using manual and powered equipment.
  • Perform planting, weeding, fertilizing, and pest control tasks on lawns, shrubs, and trees using appropriate equipment.
  • Operate and maintain equipment, tools, and machinery.
  • Assist with landscape maintenance, renovations, and repairs.
  • Mow lawns and prune trees and shrubs using manual and powered equipment.
  • Inspect and monitor assigned areas and ensure deadlines for projects and tasks are met.
  • Maintain records, forms, and work orders.

As a Landscape Assistant, you will:

Minimum Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Horticulture degree or related field, relevant coursework, or specialized training beyond high school.
  • 2+ years experience in grounds keeping and/or horticultural.
  • Commercial Driver’s License ( CDL ) license.

$16.50/hr minimum
