Landlord Tenant Attorney
Major organization is seeking a Landlord Tenant Attorney to join our Landlord Tenant Legal team in New York City. As a member of our Landlord and Tenant Legal Department, you will be responsible for handling all phases of Housing Court within the 5 boroughs. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year of experience as an admitted attorney in the state of New York, with a strong understanding of landlord-tenant law and court procedures. This position is based out of Richmond Hill, NY.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Research and draft legal documents, including non-payments, holdovers, notices, pleadings, motions, briefs, and settlement agreements.
- Attend court appearances and depositions, argue motions, and conduct trials.
- Represent landlords, developers, managing agents, investors, condominium boards, and other clients in New York City Housing Courts.
- Participate in marketing efforts, including drafting publications.
- Adhere to all of the Firm's policies and procedures.
- Handle NYC-based Landlord-Tenant court appearances and prepare predicate notices, including rent demands, termination notices, notices to cure, non-payment, and holdover petitions.
- Draft pleadings in plenary actions for breach of contract/lease/guaranty.
- Draft lease modifications, surrender agreements, and other related landlord-tenant agreements.
- Provide day-to-day legal advice and counsel to real estate operators of various asset classes, with a focus on NYC region and general US operations.
- Landlord/Tenant trial experience is a plus.
- Experience with NYC residential real estate is preferred.
Other Duties
- Maintain timely and accurate timekeeping records.
- Communicate directly with clients and third parties.
- Coordinate with paralegal colleagues to ensure effective service, coverage, and process development.
- Assist in onboarding and training new hires in the Real Estate Department paralegal team.
- Develop and present trainings on paralegal services.
- Participate in marketing activities and develop relationships with clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- JD Degree from an accredited US Law School
Skills and Abilities:
- Active New York State Bar license and in good standing
- High academic achievement with a Law Degree from an accredited US law school
- 1-5 years of Landlord/Tenant litigation experience
- Strong negotiating, analytical, and research skills
- Team-oriented with flexibility in handling tasks
- Proficient in Microsoft applications
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and pride in work
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Must be a Notary Public licensed in New York or able to obtain one within six months.
