Job summary

Uintah County is seeking a Landfill Operator I to perform skilled operation and maintenance at the county landfill, driving graders, compactors, scrapers, loaders, and dozers to manage waste, maintain access roads, and complete site improvements.

You will enforce federal/state regulations, interact with the public to explain rules and fees, conduct inspections, perform routine equipment service, and assist with scale-house tasks such as truck weighing and invoicing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year operating medium to heavy equipment.
• Ability to adhere to county safety regulations and use PPE.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment (graders, compactors, scrapers, loaders, dozers) to manage waste and maintain access roads.
• Conduct random and scheduled load inspections to identify hazardous materials and report issues.
• Interact with the public to explain site rules, assess fees, and resolve service issues.
• Perform routine equipment servicing and minor repairs; assist with scale-house tasks (truck weighing, invoicing).

Landfill Operator I

Performs skilled operation and maintenance duties at the county landfill, operating heavy equipment including graders, compactors, scrapers, loaders, and dozers to manage waste, maintain access roads, and execute site improvement projects. Enforces strict compliance with federal, state, DEQ, SWANA, and air quality regulations by conducting random and scheduled load inspections to detect and report unauthorized or hazardous materials. Interacts directly with the public to explain site rules, assess fees, and resolve service issues or complaints. Responsible for monitoring site activities via two-way radio, performing routine equipment servicing and minor repairs, and assisting with scale-house administrative tasks such as truck weighing, fee collection, and invoicing.

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of one (1) year of experience operating and maintaining medium to heavy equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Candidates must be capable of adhering to all county and departmental safety regulations and consistently utilizing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
