Job summary

The Borough of Palmer is seeking a landfill/transfer site operator to join our operations team. You will monitor disposal sites, assist with snow removal, and support daily tasks in accordance with safety policies.

Responsibilities include guiding traffic, operating basic equipment, maintaining grounds, and assisting with repairs while upholding core values: accountability, customer focus, and teamwork. Must meet the listed minimum requirements and pass background checks.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• One year of experience in a similar position to understand the duties.
• Experience with driving small to medium vehicles and operating skid steer loaders.
• Valid Alaska driver’s license for the vehicle type operated.
• HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Asbestos Identification certification.
• Must pass background check, drug screen, and health vaccinations as required.

Responsibilities

• Monitors the central landfill; ensures customer compliance with policies.
• Answers questions from the public to provide information and resolve complaints.
• Closes and opens disposal sites; keeps disposal areas clean and functional.
• Operates heavy equipment as needed.
• Develops and plans special projects.
• Maintains grounds and performs general site maintenance.
• Monitors scales and asbestos disposal per regulations.
• Performs snow removal operations and site maintenance.
