Job summary

Brevard County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a part-time landfill attendant at the Central Area/Central Disposal Facility in Cocoa. This role involves disposing of solid waste, maintaining grounds, and directing traffic at the site.

The position is heavy physical work with exposure to hazards and requires flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays. Starting pay is $18.88 per hour, negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of experience performing manual labor, lawn maintenance, grounds maintenance, or other similar outdoor labor.
• Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida driver’s license.
• Must be able to read contractor-generated hauling tickets identifying contents and cubic yards and write simple records and/or reports.

Responsibilities

• Perform entry level service work at a landfill site, disposing of solid waste and maintaining grounds.
• Direct trucks to dumping areas and open large heavy trailer doors.
• Direct the public to unloading sites and assist in unloading trash.
• Inspect the waste stream for flammable and explosive items; remove undesirable items.
