Job summary

Volusia County is seeking an experienced Equipment Operator III for the Solid Waste Division. The role is based at the Tomoka Landfill in Port Orange, Florida, requiring operation of bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, landfill compactors, semi-trucks and waste separation equipment.

The position follows a four 10-hour day schedule, with potential Saturdays and holidays. Overtime may be required and outdoor exposure is expected.

Qualifications

Completion of the eight (8) grade and three (3) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy construction equipment.
Possession of a valid Florida CDL of a class determined by the division/department of assignment within six (6) months of hire and maintain thereafter.
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

Responsibilities

Operates a heavy bulldozer and maintains a sanitary landfill.
Directs truck drivers to dumping locations.
Operates bulldozer in fill area and off-road dump truck.
Transports equipment to and from construction site and loads dirt, mulch, and other materials.
Operates excavator, front-end loader, and landfill compactor.
Operates a semi-trailer with walking floor in landfill environments.
Performs daily safety inspections and routine maintenance of equipment.
