Job summary

Buncombe County Government is seeking a Solid Waste Maintenance Technician I to join the Landfill team in Alexander. The role involves mowing, weed-eating, litter pickup, and emptying dumpsters, with daily POSI-Shell application for wind-blown litter control.

Hours are Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with rotating weekends. Must be able to work outdoors year-round and handle physical tasks on your feet for long periods. Provides a solid opportunity for outdoor-oriented candidates.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and one year of maintenance trades experience.
• Must be 18 years or older and have a valid NC driver's license.
• SWANA Operator training within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform grounds maintenance: litter pickup, cleaning around recycling centers and road areas.
• Assist mechanics with equipment repairs and routine cleaning.
• Load recyclables, operate lawn mowers and landfill equipment as needed.
• Work outdoors in all weather and follow safety procedures.
