Harnett County's Solid Waste Management division seeks a Facilities Grounds and Equipment Operator to maintain grounds and operate equipment at multiple facilities, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal rules. Duties include mowing, litter removal, transfer station cleaning, and assisting with semi-skilled tasks; strict adherence to safety standards is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Two years of related experience or equivalent education/experience.
• Valid NC driver's license and, if applicable, CDL within required time frame.
• Solid Waste Screening & SWANA Landfill Operations training completed or desired.

Responsibilities

• Open and close facilities as needed; operate light equipment like mowers and tractors.
• Mow, maintain landfill grounds, and manage landfill caps; remove litter daily.
• Assist in transfer station cleaning and load handling; separate recyclables.
• Repair and maintain equipment; ensure records for NCDEQ compliance are kept.
• Perform other duties and cover shifts; maintain safe work practices and teamwork.
