New Hanover County is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to join the Maintenance Division of the Recycling & Solid Waste Department. The role involves performing manual labor at the county landfill, maintaining and cleaning heavy equipment, organizing the maintenance shop, and supporting site operations.

Schedule is Monday–Friday with occasional emergency coverage. Salary ranges from $35,360 to $60,112 with full benefits; a valid NC driver’s license is required, CDL is a plus, and farming

Qualificações

• High School Diploma or GED plus two years of related equipment operation.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• CDL license is a plus.
• Farming experience is a plus.

Responsabilidades

• Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of heavy equipment including bulldozers, excavators, compactors, and loaders.
• Organize maintenance shop and assist with inventory control.
• Mow grass, trim using a weed eater, and handle landscaping tasks to maintain site aesthetics.
• Direct traffic and assist with Customer Convenience Site operations.
• Act as back-up for heavy equipment operators once trained and certified as competent.
• Pick up wind-blown debris to maintain permit compliance.
